The Western Pure Land (also known as Sukhavati or the Land of Ultimate Bliss) is the Buddha-land of Amitabha Buddha (the Buddha of Infinite Life). Its core characteristic is the absence of all suffering and the enjoyment of all bliss, forming a sharp contrast with our "endurable" (Saha) world.
Located to the west of our world, at a distance of ten trillion Buddha-lands (Amitabha Sutra).
Buddha: The presiding Buddha is Amitabha (Infinite Light, Infinite Life), who constantly resides and preaches the Dharma; his left and right attendants are Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva and Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva, collectively known as the "Three Sages of the West".
Land Environment: Adorned with seven treasures, flawless and perfect
Ground: The ground is made of gold, flat, soft, bright, and clean, without mountains, valleys, thorns, dirt, or stones.
Seven-Treasure Ponds and Eight-Merit Water:
Seven-treasure ponds (gold, silver, lapis lazuli, crystal, tridacna, red pearls, agate) are everywhere.
The pond water has eight merits: sweet, cold, soft, light, clear, fragrant, when drinking, and after drinking, it can eliminate afflictions, moisten the body, and please the mind.
The bottom of the ponds is covered with golden sand, the steps and paths are made of seven treasures, and the lotus flowers in the ponds are as large as chariot wheels, in blue, yellow, red, and white, each emitting light.
Architecture: Pavilions, palaces, and lecture halls made of seven treasures float in the air, changing size at will, bright and transparent, surpassing the heavenly realms countless times.
Jeweled Trees and Heavenly Music:
Seven rows of trees, seven layers of railings, and seven layers of nets, all made of four treasures.
When the wind blows the jeweled trees and nets, subtle Dharma sounds are produced, like hundreds of thousands of musical instruments playing simultaneously. Those who hear it naturally give rise to the thought of mindfulness of the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha.
Climate and Heavenly Rain: No cold or heat, no wind or rain, always mild and comfortable; during the six periods of day and night, heavenly Mandarava flowers rain down, falling colorfully, with a fragrant scent.
Wondrous Birds: White cranes, peacocks, parrots, Kalavinkas, etc., are all magical creations of the Buddha, producing harmonious and elegant sounds, proclaiming the Dharma, and causing sentient beings to constantly generate wholesome thoughts.
Sentient Beings: No suffering, only bliss, infinite lifespan
Method of Rebirth: Sentient beings are born by transformation from lotus flowers in the seven-treasure ponds, not born from parents' wombs, and have no suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death.
Physical Form: Bodies of purple-burnished gold, with magnificent marks and characteristics, similar to Amitabha Buddha; possessing the five superknowledges of heavenly eye, heavenly ear, reading others' minds, knowing past lives, and divine foot, free and unhindered.
Lifespan: Infinite and boundless Asamkhyeya kalpas, almost eternal, without premature death or aging.
Mind and Nature: All are superior good people, without greed, anger, or ignorance, without jealousy or conflict, everyone is compassionate, equal, wise, and pure, constantly hearing the Dharma, and never regressing from Bodhi.
Life: Clothing and food naturally manifest, no need for labor; in the early morning, one can go to ten trillion Buddha-lands in other directions to make offerings to the Buddhas, and return at mealtime, free and unhindered.
Time and Space: Infinite and eternal
Time: No day or night, no years or months, eternal peace and bliss, the world has no changes of "formation, existence, destruction, and emptiness".
Space: Vast and boundless, even if sentient beings from the ten directions all go there, it will not be crowded; a single speck of dust can contain the three thousand great thousand worlds, with all phenomena unhindered.
